Pick 'N' Bow
Your Hosts
Edy & Matt Mathews
In December, 2005, Pick 'N' Bow, monthly newsletter of the Southeast Texas Bluegrass Music
Association  (SETBMA) ceased publication after 30 years.  Edy was the publication's only editor for
all that time.  The following is from Edy's notes in the last issue ...
.

The time has come to inform you that this is the last issue of Pick ‘N’ Bow. I have published
this newsletter since the beginning and after 30 years I am tired and unable to find someone
in this area to replace me. I am sending refunds to all members that are due a refund of $4 or
more with this issue. Checks that I have received in the last 3-4 weeks will be returned with
this issue.

And on another sad note, our 3rd Saturday December Show will be our last. Our president J.
B. Russell is in ill health and had to retire from his business. When I discussed ending the
newsletter with him he understood and also stated that due to his health, he and Betty could
not continue to work our monthly show. Our vice president John King also has health
problems and unable to do the job.

For years Arts Presort has been our mailer. The owner, Roger Tywater and his helper Sis,
who he always refers to as the boss (he’s got his priorities in the right place), have been
wonderful to work with. All I had to do was drive up and they unloaded all the boxes for me.
When I delivered the October and November Issues to them, they informed me they were
closing December 31. Roger is retiring and Sis has other employment.

Then a few days ago Mike Ford, who provided the food concession at our show, called to ask
me if I would be too upset with him informing me he could no longer provide the food. Of
course I told him no and went on to inform him of the above. Mike also has some health
problems. Mike and his wife, Raelene, have provided a good concession for many years. We
were proud to have them and work with them.

And let’s not forget our Dumplin’ Man, Lawrence Gordon. Lawrence always stepped up to the
plate and provided those good dumplins’ when Mike & Raelene were unable to provide the
concession. If you missed those good dumplins’ it was your loss. They were as good as
mom’s, and that is really a good compliment.

Seems things never stay the same and all good things sometimes have to end. How odd that
so many things at one time came to an end—club president, vice president, editor, presort
mailer, and concession. Guess it is meant to be. Following is a list of other clubs with
newsletters that you may want to subscribe. Some of you are already on several mailing
lists; however, there may be one you would like to check out.
