sample some Blue River:
Notes:

Blue River plays progressive, hard driving,
high energy bluegrass music. Their
original arrangements, tight harmonies
and enthusiastic rhythms were a hit at the
Argyle Tx festival's Showcase of Bands in
March.  Blue River's repertoire includes
material from many sources in addition to
traditional bluegrass, and features several
original compositions by band members.

Johnny Tarver: lead and rhythm guitar,
lead and tenor Vocals.  Johnny started
playing guitar at the early age of eight.
Bluegrass has always been a music that
he loved, although through high school he
experimented with rock-n-roll because
bluegrass wasn’t cool. For the last 15
years Johnny has played with County Line
Bluegrass Band from the North Texas
area. Introduced to Cecil Patterson several
years earlier, it wasn’t until he moved to
Wylie, Tx that they were reunited and Blue
River was formed.

Gary Penny: mandolin, lead vocals. Gary
was born in the Cass county piney woods
of northeast Texas. When Gary was just
13, he walked 5 miles to see a bluegrass
festival. Gary has always had an interest in
bluegrass music, but also enjoys country
and rock-n-roll. Some of the bands Gary
has played in include the south Texas
country band Loco and the bluegrass band
Mill Creek. Early in his musical experience
Gary played drums in country and rock
bands. Gary was first drawn to the
mandolin after hearing Doyle Lawson on
the first Bluegrass Band album.

Cecil Patterson: banjo, lead and baritone
vocals.  At the age of 12, Cecil learned to
play rhythm guitar to back his father’s fiddle
playing. Soon after, Cecil borrowed his
uncle's banjo. From that point on he was
hooked on the banjo. Cecil has played with
several area bands including Second Time
Around and The Vinings.

Leon Elliott: bass.  Leon (not pictured) is a
recent addition to Blue River, performing
on the bass.

Between appearances at festivals and
other bluegrass events across the Sabine
Bluegrass region, Blue RIver is hard at
work on their first CD.
