The members of Last Stand have been
carving out their niche in America's south
central music theatre for a right smart time.
Previously known as Cold Harbor, they all
invest themselves in the traditional and
contemporary American music they love so
much.
Roy Barnes picked up the guitar at a very
early age, his dad being a Jimmie Rodgers
style singer/blue yodeler. Roy played with
The Bluegrass Okies until about 1974 then
played with several bands including Rudy
Q. Jones and Red Dirt, Bluegrass
Volunteers, The Sossman Family,
Oklahoma Bluegrass Gentlemen, Bob
Wackerly & Blue Mt. Boys, Nash Ramblers,
Country Grass and most recently five years
with The Keener Family. Roy is also a
songwriter and has had several of his
songs recorded by regional bands.
Don Burns plays banjo and sings tenor
and baritone. Don’s daddy taught him how
to play the guitar when he was about 7.
Since his mother was an Assembly of God
minister, the church was a pretty handy and
encouraging venue for an up and coming
musician. That and listening to the Grand
Ole Opry on the radio every Saturday night
strongly influenced his musical direction.
Don has played for several local groups,
such as Keechi Mountain Boys, Blue
Mountain Boys, Southern Sound, and One
Way Road.
John Pollard started learning the guitar
when he was 12 years old and discovered
bluegrass when he went to an Oklahoma
Bluegrass Club show. Shortly thereafter he
helped form the Bluegrass Revue. After
serving with the Marines, he did a stint in
Nashville then came back home and met a
girl at a bluegrass festival that could not
only sing, but she played the guitar too.
She had a little group called Country Grass
and she needed a guitar picker, so the next
year, at the same festival, on stage, she
married him.
David Real plays the mandolin and sings
lead, baritone, and tenor. His musical
background is in southern gospel and he
sang lead with the Journeymen Gospel
Quartet for years. He has played in other
bluegrass bands prior to Last Stand such
as One Way Road, Common Tyme, and
Flint Hill Special.
Last Stand is currently at Big Traxx Studio
working on their new album, "It Don't Feel
Like Home Anymore".
